A couple of weeks ago saw the devastating attack on Bardo Museum in Tunisia by IS militants, meaning that Tunisia’s tourism has sadly fallen.
Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by the terrorist attack, and also to Tunisia for the next fight they will have to take now.
Tourism is critical to the stability of the Tunisian economy, providing a living for a tenth of the population, but after the horrible terrorist attack Tunisia has suffered a 60% drop in booking from this time last year. It’ll be a hard time to convince travellers to return to the North African country.
Nevertheless, we can see a glimmer of hope thanks to the incredible social media campaign#JeSuisBardo. Inspired by the #JeSuisCharlie hashtag after the cruel killings of Charlie Hebdo staff, the #JeSuisBardo campaign is everyone’s way of stating that they will go to Tunisia this year, and give them the tourists it desperately needs at this time.
And so, twitter has created the hashtag as an enabler to show support towards Tunisia at this time, including masses of photos with peoples’ promises of venturing to the African country.
Many have uttered agreement that Tunisia will surely rebound after this setback.
Our question is, will you go to Tunisia this summer?
