What’s new this Summer 2018 in the Capital Region USA

It’s easier to fly, stay and play in the Capital Region this summer than ever before, with three additional flight routes from the UK to the region, gorgeous new properties to check into and check out, plus a host of new tours and activities to try.

Three New Flight Routes

United has successfully launched a new daily flight route between Edinburgh, Scotland and Washington Dulles International Airport, located in Chantilly, Virginia, which commenced on 23 May 2018 for the summer until 4 October 2018. Icelandair has also launched a new route in to Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport with four non-stop flights a week between the Icelandic capital and the Capital Region. Primera Air is launching a new low-cost route from London Stansted to Washington Dulles International Airport on 22 August 2018 with fares starting from £219. Three New Hotels

Washington D.C.

The Eaton Hotel is set to open in July 2018 bringing the first hybrid-hotel to downtown D.C as part of Eaton Workshop’s new global brand merger. Bringing together a hub for creative social change; consisting of a co-working members club and extensive arts programming, with an exclusive hospitality experience, the Eaton Hotel will draw inspiration from the local community both in its design and its unique approach to food and beverage, wellness and the arts. Maryland

Live! Hotel – The 310-room hotel at Live! Casino in Hanover, near Baltimore, Maryland, opened in May 2018. The luxury property is the first in the world to carry the Cordish Company’s Live! brand. Guest rooms at the $200-million, 350,000-square-foot property are a mix of modern style and chic, urban flare. Offering new dining and nightlife options as well as a Shop Live! retail store, Live! Spa and a fully equipped gym. Virginia

The Cavalier is now open in Virginia Beach following an extensive $75 million renovation. Three New culinary experiences

Maryland

RHouse, located in Baltimore’s arty, up-and-coming neighbourhood Remington, is the city’s newest foodie marketplace bringing together 10 chef-driven food and drink concepts under one roof allowing guests to get a true taste of Baltimore.

Mount Vernon Marketplace brings fresh artisanal fare from 14 suppliers to Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighbourhood. Visitors can sample everything from local charcuterie to fresh Chesapeake oysters, French-inspired crepes to craft beer among other culinary delights.

Virginia

Raise a glass in Virginia on one of four new beer trails across the state. Southwest Virginia’s Mountain Brew Trail includes all breweries in Southwest Virginia’s 19 county footprint while the Shenandoah Valley Beerwerks Trail features 13 craft breweries in Staunton, Waynesboro, Rockbridge, and Harrisonburg. Head to Virginia’s capital to sample the Richmond Beer Trail offering access to 30 craft breweries while the LoCo Ale Trail will  in Loudoun Country continues to expand, with seven new breweries slated to open in 2018. With the new openings, Loudoun County will be home to almost 30 breweries – the most for any county in Virginia.

Three New adventures/ activities

Washington D.C.

With football fever taking hold thanks to the World Cup, and D.C. announced as a candidate city for the 2026 tournament, fans eager to get a slice of the action may be interested to check out Washington D.C.’s professional soccer team, DC United, at their new $300 million state-of-the art stadium at Audi Field, Buzzard Point. Maryland

Discover Maryland’s antebellum history with the brand new Following in His Footsteps Frederick Douglass Driving Tour, launched this year in honour of the 200th anniversary of the birth of famed abolitionist, writer, and orator Frederick Douglass. The self-drive itinerary takes guests on a journey following Frederick’s formative years in Maryland and his path to freedom.

Virginia
