NEW HOTELS:

  • ATLANTA’S LATEST HOTEL OPENING

Atlanta welcomes the city’s first Canopy by Hilton hotel on 27 December 2018. The property, located in Atlanta’s Midtown neighbourhood, features 176 rooms, four suites and 3,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. The Canopy will neighbour many of Atlanta’s arts destinations including High Museum of Art, Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.   • THE NEW HYATT PLACE CENTENNIAL PARK IN ATLANTA

Expected to open in August 2019, Hyatt Place Centennial Park will sit across the street from Georgia Aquarium and close to other downtown Atlanta attractions.   • NEW WEST ELM BOUTIQUE HOTEL COMING TO SAVANNAH

The popular high-end home accessory retailer, West Elm, is taking a dive into the boutique hotel business and with its five hotels opening in the United States is a location in Savannah. The future home of the four-story, 150-175-room West Elm Hotel in Savannah is at Drayton Street and East Huntingdon Street, across from Forsyth Park near the Savannah Law School. West Elm aims for each property to be unique and are in the process of discussing possible names for the properties inspired by their surroundings and history.   • SAVANNAH’S LATEST INDUSTRIAL UPDATE

Set to be Savannah’s newest luxury accommodation, the 419-room JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District property will encompass three 4.5 to 5-star luxury hotels, centred around Savannah’s 1912 former hydroelectric power plant building. Plant Riverside District will feature a new 4.5-acre entertainment district including a 500-person live entertainment venue, almost two acres of public parks and plazas, three rooftop bars and more than a dozen new dining options.   • FIRST EVER THE WALKING DEAD STUDIO TOUR

Riverwood Studios, home to AMC’s smash-hit The Walking Dead for the past eight seasons, recently announced that it is opening its doors to the public for the first-ever The Walking Dead Studio Tour. Comprised of 150 acres of land in Senoia, the studio tours will be offered Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and visitors will be able to experience some of the series’ most iconic sets and never-before-seen locations along the way.   • WHAT’S NEW AT THE ATLANTA HISTORY CENTER

Visitors have much to see at Atlanta History Center with expansions and new offerings upon the completion of the 23,000-square-foot Lloyd and Mary Ann Whitaker Cyclorama Building opening in 2019. The facility is the new home of the massive Battle of Atlanta Cyclorama painting, restored to its intended size at 42 feet high and 358 feet long. It joins the refurbished historic Texas steam engine. Atlanta History Center will add a seventh garden, its first major addition in three decades, and an elevator lift within historic Swan House to make it accessible to guests with disabilities.   • SAVANNAH MUSIC FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
