Winter is here, and with it the famous Ice Castles of Midway, Utah. Expected to open at the end of December (weather dependent), the extraordinary structures – an annual addition to the mountain town – are back in their fully frosted splendour: part playground, part art installation, part fairytale.

A serious architectural undertaking, the Ice Castles cover an entire acre, filled with glittering turrets, frozen archways, slippery ice slides and glacial waterfalls. A Frozen fan’s dream, the breathtaking ice features are hand sculpted over a series of weeks, and spectacularly illuminated at night.

This epic winter wonderland, just 45 minutes’ drive southeast of Salt Lake City, is expected to be one of Utah’s most popular seasonal attractions again. Particularly as it’s located amid a ring of world class ski resorts, including Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain, both of which are open for the season.

Brent Christensen, founder of Ice Castles, comments: “Utah is known for its wonderful variety of winter activities, and Ice Castles is a perfect addition to the state’s growing roster of cold-weather adventures. Ice Castles offers visitors a unique winter experience unlike any other. Building the castles is a true labour of love, as each icicle is hand-placed then repeatedly sprayed with water to create large-scale, organic ice formations.”

Holidaymakers keen to visit the Ice Castles are advised to book online in advance at www.icecastles.com. Tickets are priced from $9.95 for adults and $6.95 for children visiting on a weekday, with entry costing $14.95 and $8.95 for adults and kids respectively on the weekends.
