EX-NUN BECOMES GEORGIA’S FIRST FEMALE BREWERY OWNER
Owned by Georgia’s first female brewery owner and brewer Kathy Davis – small-scale brewery Abbey of the Holy Goats produces innovative and award-winning Belgian-style beers for the public in Roswell. Torn between starting a goat farm in the remote wilderness, an appreciation of the monastic life (founder Kathy lived as a nun for a few years) and a love of the craft of beer brewing – fortunately the latter won out and ‘Abbey of the Holy Goats’ was born. The brewery opened its doors in 2016 and drinkers can enjoy beers such as ‘The Unholy Goat’ and ‘Goats of the First Order’ in the monk’s Tasting Hall – complete with a 26-foot table, stained glass windows and working organ!
A MUST-HAVE COMBINATION: ENJOY BEER AND YOGA IN ATHENS
Bringing great craft beer to the Southeast since 2002, Terrapin Beer Co. is known for both its fine quality beers and lively event calendar – featuring a yoga class that’s guaranteed to get the weekend off to a leisurely start! A truly unique way to get friends and family to come to yoga, enjoy a relaxing morning of restorative yoga and then a refreshing beer during the Terrapin tour. The brewery’s beautiful outdoor area offers the perfect surroundings to listen to live music whilst sipping Terrapin’s award-winning American Pale Ale, which even took home a Gold Medal at Denver’s Great American Beer Festival.
HONORARY BREWMASTER: FORMER MASTERS CHAMPION, IAN WOOSNAM
Athens’ third craft brewery opened in May 2015 and joins Creature Comforts and Terrapin Beer Co. in offering public tours and tastings. With 1991 Masters Champion Ian Woosnam an honorary SBC brewmaster, the new brewery not only has a famous friend, it’s also renowned locally for its 20+ beers, live music and boiled peanuts. The perfect accompaniment to its Flagship Street Pale Ale!
AN ATHENS’ BREWERY THAT OOZES COOL
Located in a beautiful, 13.000 square foot 1940s warehouse in downtown Athens, Creature Comforts brewery oozes cool and was named one of the ‘Best New Breweries in the U.S.’ by The Daily Meal. Responsible for 60% of the brewery’s business is its Tropicália beer, and whilst it’s available in many of the state’s bars, restaurants and shops it’s known to sell out almost immediately! Don’t miss Curious Tuesdays to sample one-off creations.
