Florida Keys cuisine gets celebrity chef approval!

What’s the best reason to visit the Florida Keys?

For many travellers, this wouldn’t be an easy question to answer.  The stunning marine environment, spectacular sunsets or quirky characters, perhaps?

But for TV chef Phil Vickery they are all trumped by the island chain’s cuisine  –  and David was lucky enough to tag along when Phil and his crew from This Morning headed Stateside earlier this year.  Here are some of the highlights of a tasty trip…

Phil meets local chef Paul Menta in Key West.  Paul runs The Stoned Crab restaurant and took the crew out fishing before heading back to the kitchen to turn the catch into a sensational meal!

Next stop: Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe, and another colourful character.  Kermit Carpenter has been producing the Keys’ signature dessert Key lime pie in Key West for more than 25 years.  Phil still thinks it’s the best he’s ever tasted.

It’s not just the humans who get to enjoy a tasty treat in the Keys.  Phil was roped in to help with feeding the giant tarpon fish at Robbie’s Marina in Islamorada.

And … relax!  Chilling out with a cocktail at  Sundowners in Key Largo  –  the perfect way to end a Florida Keys odyssey!
