Celebrating 20 Years of Providence’s Waterfire Festival in 2014

by | Mar 3, 2014 | Press Releases

2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the spectacular WaterFire Festival that takes place in the charming city of Providence, Rhode Island. Running on select Saturday evenings from May through to November, the event displays more than 100 sparkling bonfire light art installations on the three rivers leading to downtown Providence accompanied by music and street performers.
Providence is one of America’s oldest cities, renowned for its dining scene which includes some of New England’s finest Italian eateries in the central area of Federal Hill.  Just an hour’s drive from New England’s gateway city of Boston, travellers will find it easy to make a visit to WaterFire part of a touring itinerary in this historic US region.
At WaterFire, visitors can stroll down the paths of Waterplace Park that showcase the flickering flames of the art installations, originally created by award winning artist Barnaby Evans in 1994. The works of art are made magical by displaying the opposition of two forces: fire and water. Eclectic music, aroma of slow burning wood smoke and even a few surprises to celebrate 20 years are just a few things this unique festival has to offer in 2014.
WaterFire is an annual free event put together with the help of volunteers to bring a cultural and engaging experience to visitors and Providence residents alike.
