Loews Santa Monica Beach Opens New Beachfront Restaurant and Bar Inspired by Muscle Beach’s Original Star Performers
A highly-anticipated new addition to the Muscle Beach shorefront, Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel has opened BarBelle – a stylish hideaway located steps from one of California’s most famous beaches. BarBelle will feature an ocean-inspired farm-to-table menu, exclusive drinks menus including Californian wines, local craft-beer and exciting cocktails to be enjoyed with a panoramic view of the ocean.
Located on the shores of Santa Monica Beach, California, Muscle Beach was started in 1930s and is considered the birthplace of the U.S. physical fitness boom. Famous for its ties to weight lifting, bodybuilding and gymnastics, vintage imagery of Muscle Beach’s original performers including Abbye Stockton (a.k.a BarBelle) and her partner Les Stockton, is now on display in BarBelle’s own gallery. These iconic performers are renowned for their ‘high press’ routine, in which Abbye lifted a 100-pound barbell over her head while balancing on Les’ hands.
Diners can expect a menu including fresh local ingredients with Executive Chef Zach Dallessandro pairing hearty entrees with sharable artisanal plates. Menu highlights are set to include Grilled Mahi Mahi with Macadamia Pesto, Short Rib with Fingerlings and Baby Vegetables, Fennel Dusted Salmon, Gnocchi with Pancetta, and Bistro Skirt Steak with Frites and Chimichurri.
