Monday, 10 April 2017 – American Airlines and British Airways have launched a competition in partnership with IPW, the U.S. Travel Association’s premier international marketplace, offering one travel writer or blogger the opportunity to win return flights to Washington, DC. The winner will explore the USA’s capital city and join the 35 strong UK media delegation at IPW (3 June – 7 June 2017), the largest travel show in the U.S.
IPW (www.ipw.com) is acknowledged as the largest single generator of travel to the US, and Washington DC is the 2017 host city.
More than 500 media from around the world attend IPW annually and the winner will have the opportunity to personally meet executives and representatives from more than 1,000 tourist boards, attractions and travel organisations from across the U.S. This opportunity will allow journalists to gather story ideas, exciting scoops and interviews. Highlights of IPW include an exclusive Media Brunch held at the Newsuem, specialised press tours of the city, the opening party event on the National Mall and Air and Space Museum , the Media Marketplace, press conferences and the closing party at Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals baseball team.
To enter the competition, writers or journalists must tweet @KBCPR with the hashtag #AABAIPW and explain, as creatively as possible, why they want to fly with American Airlines and British Airways to Washington, DC. There are many reasons including the 60,000 lie flat beds from London to the US every week, but the most creative tweet will win.
“We are delighted to be partnering with American Airlines and British Airways by giving this fantastic opportunity to a travel writer or blogger that has not previously attended IPW.” said Malcolm Smith, general manager of IPW. “Our goal is to build on the success of previous years in attracting new journalists and media outlets to IPW and introducing them to the many benefits of attending the show.”
The competition runs until 30 April 2017. Entries will not be considered if the journalist has previously attended IPW.
Prize includes return flights to Washington, DC with AA/BA for one participant, hotel accommodation, ground transportation, excursions and all meals during IPW. Attendance at the following is compulsory:
1) Media brunch and choice of specialised press tour on Sunday, 4 June 2017
2) Media Marketplace on Monday, 5 June 2017
3) Press conferences on Tuesday, 6 June and Wednesday, 7 June 2017
There are nightly parties and networking events throughout the show.
The winner must be available to travel to the US on Saturday, 3 June and return Thursday, 8 June.
In 2018, IPW will be held in Denver, Colorado, and then in Anaheim, California, in 2019.
