Rachel McCaffery

Rachel McCaffery is a consultant in responsible tourism, and founder of Green Case Consulting, an agency specialising in sustainable tourism. Working hand in hand with Rachel, we can add value to destinations and businesses through the development and implementation of creative sustainability solutions.

Rachel McCaffery spent the last ten years developing and implementing sustainability for the Virgin Holidays, Bales Worldwide, Hip Hotels and Travelcity Direct brands. Based in the Marketing Department at Virgin Holidays, she created a responsible tourism strategy to increase sustainability, engage staff and consumers and also act as a differentiator for the brand.

During this time she also input into the sustainable direction of the Virgin Group, through involvement with Virgin Aware and Virgin Unite and helped drive the sustainability strategy of the UK travel industry, through her position as Vice Chair of ABTA’s Sustainable Tourism Committee. She was heavily involved in the creation and development of the Travelife Sustainability in Tourism scheme, which has been adopted by tour operators and accommodations throughout Europe and is extending its reach worldwide.

Rachel has a Masters Degree in International Tourism Policy from the University of North London during which she specialised in sustainable destination management and has worked in marine research in the Caribbean, ecotourism and conservation in East Africa and also has third sector experience with UK charities, Victim Support and Childline.
